26th September, 2024:  E-Waste Management Summit

2 members of Friends of Nature and faculty from the Department of Environmental Science, KCK participated in the E-Waste management summit, Nagaland Chapter at De Oriental Grande, Kohima organised by Nagaland Pollution Control Board in collaboration with Hulladek Recycling Pvt Ltd & e-CIRCLE.
The summit served as a platform to discuss the pressing issue of e-waste in India and to explore sustainable solutions for its management. The panelists discussed on the environment and health risks associated with electronic waste. They shed light on urgent need for improved e-waste management systems to mitigate the detrimental effects on our environment and public health. The summit was a step towards fostering greater collaborations between stakeholders, government bodies and the community to address the e-waste crisis effectively. And that e-CIRCLE as a collection centre in Nagaland plays an important role in taking up the responsibility of collecting e-waste which reduces the negative impacts on the environment and goes a long way towards protection of the environment.


September 16, 2024: Department of EVS observes “World Ozone Day”

Observing World Ozone Day on September 16, 2024, Dept of Environmental Science organised an essay competition themed “Ozone Layer Depletion”. The competition received 17 entries and the winners received a cash prize with a commendable certificate. Following are the winners:-
1st Prize – Vetsϋkholu, Dept of Pol Science
2nd Prize – Kungyangse Sangtam, Dept of Pol Science
3rd Prize – Nguneino Nancy Chishi, Dept of English


5th June, 2024: Department of EVS observes “World Environment Day” in collaboration with Friends of Nature, KCK & ZϋbZϋb India

Department of Environmental Science and Friends of Nature, KCK in collaboration with ZϋbZϋb India observed World Environment Day 2024 at Meriema dumping site. This year’s World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our Land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration”. The exposure to Meriema dumping site was an eye-opener as all the students and teachers saw the ground reality of the waste that is being generated daily. A total of 11 students and 3 teachers participated in the program.


25th April, 2024: Culmination Programme at DC office with ZϋbZϋb India

Department of Environmental Science, Friends of Nature members with 31 students attended the culmination program conducted under deeper public engagement and consultation organised by the District Administration Kohima in collaboration with ZϋbZϋb India. In this program, the reel making competition was declared whereby Kohima College won 1st, 2nd prizes and 5 consolation prizes.


22nd April, 2024: Department of EVS in collaboration with Friends of Nature, KCK observes Earth Day themed “Planet Vs Plastics”

Department of Environmental Science and Friends of Nature, Kohima College, Kohima observed Earth Day. Dziesebeinuo Yhome, convenor of FoN highlighted on the theme “Planet Vs Plastics” where she discussed how use of plastics has become a menace today and encouraged every being to have a goal of building a plastic free future for the sake of human and planetary health. A total of 27 students and 5 teachers participated in the program whereby, all the participants constructed some raised beds using Eco Bricks for beautification purposes.


28th February, 4th—5th March, 2024: Project work

6th semester students of B.A. & B.Com conducted sanitation and plantation drive and making of Eco- bricks for their project reports on 28th February, 4th March and 5th March 2024.


28th February, 2024: Department of EVS in collaboration with ZϋbZϋb India, Organised a Talk on National Clean Air Programme

Department of Environmental Science in collaboration with ZϋbZϋb India organised a talk on NCAP. The resource persons from ZϋbZϋb India gave a brief highlight on the current scenario of the air quality in Nagaland. They further encouraged the students to participate in reel making competition which will be one way to give awareness to the public.


21st February, 2024: Workshop on National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) organised by District Admn, Kohima in collaboration ZϋbZϋb India, Department of EVS & Friends of Nature, KCK

A Workshop on National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) was conducted at Kohima College, Kohima. This was organised by District Administartion Kohima in collaboration with ZϋbZϋb India and Department of Environmental Science and Friends of Nature, KCK. The main objective of this workshop is to provide awareness on air quality of Nagaland and to engage the community in reducing air pollution, thus improving air quality.


8th September, 2023: E-Waste Workshop and Awareness drive

Friends of Nature and Department of Environmental Science in collaboration with E-Circle conducted a workshop-cum-awareness drive on E-waste on the 8th of September 2023 at the conference hall, Kohima College, Kohima. The resource persons from E-Circle were Ms. Bendangwala Walling and Ms. Soweteü K. Letro. A total of fifty—two (52) First (1st) semester students and 6 faculty along with two (2) resource persons took part in the workshop after which the awareness drive was carried out at the Department of Higher Education, Kohima.


28th August, 2023: Educational Session with SEC-EVS (Remote Sensing, GIS and Modelling) students

The department of Environmental Science invited Dr. Kedovikho Yhoshu, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Nagaland University, Lumami campus as a resource person for an educational session on Remote sensing and Geographic Information system.


5th June, 2023: Observation of “World Environment Day”

The department of Environmental Science along with the cells of NSS and Friends of Nature, KCK jointly organised plantation and campus beautification drive on account of World Environment Day 2023 under the them Solution to Plastic Pollution” #BeatPlasticPollutions


3rd June, 2023: A Programme organised under the theme “Solution to Plastic pollution”

The department of Environmental Science along with Friends of Nature, KCK organized a formal programme under the theme “Solution to Plastic Pollution” #BeatPlasticPollution with Rajkumar M, IFS, DFO Kohima as resource person. The program is organized as part of an ongoing pledge to have single use plastic free zone for the upcoming World Environment Day.


24th April, 2023: Observation of “Earth Day” & conduction of Mass Social Work

The Department of Environmental Science along with Friends of Nature, Swachh Bharat and NSS cells of Kohima College, Kohima conducted a mass social work for all the students, teaching and non-teaching faculties on 24th April, 2023. On the same day “Earth Day” was observed where Dr. Petevino Chase, Dept of EVS talked on the importance of Earth Day focusing on the theme “Invest in our Planet”.


24th March, 2023: EVS Field trip to Sikhale, Khonoma

6th Semester students of Kohima College, Kohima participated in the educational field trips conducted on 24th of March, 2023 as part of their internal assessment at Sikhale, Khonoma Village. The purpose of the field trip was to enable the students to get hands on experiences of the topics they were taught in theory in their classrooms; to make them aware of their surroundings and its importance and to help them to connect with nature. Altogether, 113 students participated in this activity.


23rd March, 2023: EVS Field Trip to Terhotsiese, Khonoma Village

6th Semester students of Kohima College, Kohima participated in the educational field trip conducted on 23rd of March, 2023 as part of their internal assessment at Terhotsiese, Khonoma Village. The purpose of the field trip was to enable the students to get hands on experiences of the topics they were taught in theory in their classrooms; to make them aware of their surroundings and its importance and to help them to connect with nature. Altogether, 133 students participated in this activity.


18th March, 2023: EVS Field Trip to Sechϋ Zubza

6th Semester students of Kohima College, Kohima participated in the educational field trip conducted on 18th, of March, 2023 as part of their internal assessment at Sechϋ Zubza, Kohima district. The purpose of the field trip was to enable the students to get hands on experiences of the topics they were taught in theory in their classrooms; to make them aware of their surroundings and its importance and to help them to connect with nature. Altogether, a total of 106 students participated in this activity.
