Aug 9, 2024: Official Inauguration Programme for the Student Counselling Centre, Kohima College
The Mentoring and Counselling Cell, in collaboration with the Department of Education at Kohima College, Kohima, organised the inauguration of the Student Counselling Centre. The event was led by Dr. Prescilla Ezong, Associate Professor in the Education Department, a prayer by Dr Ketoukhrieü Assoc. prof & IQAC Coordinator, with the Centre officially inaugurated by the college’s principal, Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Vüprü expressed his satisfaction, describing the launch of the Centre as a “dream come true.” He emphasised the importance of addressing the emotional & mental challenges that students face alongside academic pressures, highlighting that the Centre is dedicated to supporting students’ mental and emotional well-being by offering them necessary guidance.
Ms. Lona Katiry, the Convenor of the Mentoring and Counselling Cell, shared that the concept for the Centre emerged during the 3rd NAAC cycle in 2023 and explained its significance in providing professional counselling services to students.
The Student Counselling Centre will operate under the guidance of the Education Department & the Mentoring and Counselling Cell.
The objective of the Student Counselling Centre are:
- Promote awareness on mental health
- Promote professional counselling services today to students on mental health & behavioural issues
- Help students overcome their struggles & mental health issues and deal effectively with the environment
