30th September, 2024: Awareness Programme on “Opportunities and Career Prospects at RBI”, Organised by Departments of Commerce & Economics
The Department of Economics and the Department of Commerce, Kohima College Kohima in Collaboration with the RBI officials conducted a one day “Awareness programme on Opportunities and Career prospects at RBI” on 30th September,2024 at the Conference Hall, Kohima College, Kohima.
Presentations were given by:
1. Shri. Keneisalie Kevin Solo, Manager-RBI, Kohima
2. Ms. Supongla, Assistant Manager-RBI, Kohima
Goals:
1. To enlighten the students of a rewarding career, the perks and benefits of a career with RBI
2. To create awareness to the students about the opportunity of getting a job at RBI
3. To acquaint them of exam pattern and tips for preparation of the RBI Managers and Assistant manager Exams.
Achievements:
1. The students were made aware with the nature and scopes, functions and working of RBI
2. the students were informed about the opportunities , benefits, advantages and working environment of being an RBI employee.
3. The students were made aware of the exam patterns, educational qualification, criteria, strategies and books to be utilised for the preparation of the Exams.
All the 5th Semester students and Teachers of Economics Department and Commerce wing participated in the awareness programme.
In conclusion, the Principal, Dr Vitsosie Vupru, thanked the Resource Persons from RBI and encouraged the students to work hard and achieve their life goals.
12th August, 2024: ‘Workshop on Mushroom Cultivation’, Organised by Department of Commerce & NSS Unit, Kohima College, Kohima
A one-day workshop on mushroom cultivation was organised by the Department of Commerce, Kohima College, Kohima and National Service Scheme (NSS), Kohima College, Kohima in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland under RKVY Scheme 2023-24 in commemoration of International Youth Day 2024 on the theme, “Youth Towards Sustainability: Promoting Sustainable Food Systems and Practices”.
Objectives- the workshop was aimed to provide technical knowledge and hands-on training on mushroom cultivation and to develop and implement outreach strategies as an initiative to reconnect with the alumni of the department.
The workshop started at 10:00 a.m. with Ms. Khekali Sema, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce as the chairperson. The welcome address was given by Ms. Kethosenuo Kesiezie, Assistant Professor & HOD, Department of Commerce which was followed by the technical session. There were 3 resource persons namely Ms. Thungchobeni (Horticulture Inspector), Ms. Medoninuo (Horticulture Assistant) and Ms. Neichünuo (Horticulture Extension Assistant). Ms. Neichünuo highlighted on the theoretical aspect of mushroom cultivation and method demonstration was done by Ms. Medoninuo and Ms. Thungchobeni. The workshop emphasized mainly on the cultivation of Oyster mushroom and covered the following aspects: introduction to mushroom cultivation, material requirements, cultivation procedures, environmental control and monitoring, fruiting and cropping and its potential as a sustainable livelihood option. The technical session was followed by Q&A session. The students engaged in hands-on training after the demonstration. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Akono Phira, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. Light refreshments were provided to all the participants and free mushroom spawns were distributed to all the participants of the workshop. A total of 75 students, 8 alumni and 8 faculties attended the workshop.
Achievements- the objective of providing participants with the practical knowledge and skills on mushroom cultivation was successfully achieved through the hands-on training which took place. Several participants were also given the opportunity to take home the mushroom pods made during the workshop. Free mushroom spawn was also distributed to the participants.
The participants were able to learn more about the profitability and marketability of mushrooms in Nagaland, information on where and how to procure mushroom spawn for home-cultivation was also provided.
20th—23rd May, 2024: Department of Commerce organised an excursion trip to Guwahati for the 6th Sem BCom students
The Department of Commerce organised a 3—day exposure tour to Guwahati for the present 6th Semester students. The objective of the excursion was to allow the students with an opportunity to visit some renowned locations, experience a different culture and spend quality time with each other.
The 3 days tour included visitation to the Assam State Museum, Guwahati Planetarium, Guwahati Ropeway Guwahati Zoo and Accoland Park among others.
A total of 26 students, along with 3 faculty members took part in the excursion program.
17th August, 2023: Department of Commerce Organised a Financial Awareness Programme
The Department of Commerce, Kohima College, Kohima organised a “Financial Awareness Programme” for the students on 17th August 2023 at conference hall, Kohima College, Kohima. The programme consisted of two technical sessions with two resource persons – Shri. Mangta Shoute, Assistant General manger, RBI, Kohima and Shri. Lenruhtsu V, Assistant Area Manager, CRISIL Foundation, Nagaland. The programme was chaired by Kethosenuo Kesiezie, Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce. At the start, welcome address was delivered by Lily Angami, Assoc. Professor and HOD, Department of Economics, which was then followed by introduction of the resource persons by the chair. The technical sessions comprised presentations by guest speakers with discussion sessions on the themes. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Vekhosa Thingo, Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce. Approximately around 120 participants attended the programme
The primary objective of the programme was to create financial awareness and to sensitise the students on various aspects of the financial system. The first session was on the theme – “Consumer Protection and Customer Service in Banks”, and the resource person was Shri. Mangta Shoute. The presentation was focused on the banking structure of India with special reference to RBI. In this session, the students were introduced to the different functions, roles and powers of RBI with special emphasis on the Banking Ombudsman Scheme 2021. The speaker highlighted the various customer services in banks and cautioned the participants on the security aspects of fake notes/currencies in circulation. The speaker also highlighted the importance of savings and the benefits of compounding interest for early investors. This session ended with discussions on career opportunities with RBI.
The second session was on the theme – “Digital Banking with Focus on: USSD Based Mobile Banking; Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS); Unified Payment Interface (UPI) & UPI 123Pay”. In this session, the resource person was Shri. Lenruhtsu, and he deliberated on the importance of digital banking and the aspects of financial inclusion. This session primarily focused on the recent developments in banking sector with the advancement of digital technology. In this sessions, the speaker emphasised mainly on three aspects of digital banking – Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) based mobile banking; Aadhaar Enabled Banking System (AEPS); Unified Payment Interface (UPI) & UPI 123pay. Themes discussed in this session included functions, benefits, services and features offered by digital banking. This session, in essence, highlighted the measures implemented for achieving the national mission for financial inclusion in the country.
The technical sessions was followed by Q&A, where a number of faculties and students actively participated in an engaging conversation. In this session, questions from the audience were mostly on issues of safety and security concerning usage of third party apps and declining fixed/recurring deposits interest rates across the banking sectors. Both the sessions and the ensued Q&A session have been significantly helpful for the students. On the whole, this Financial Awareness Programme has been very informative and extremely beneficial for the students. The department is particularly pleased by the positive responses of the participants and look forward to collaborate with financial institutions/cyber security agencies to organise such programmes in the future, keeping in mind suggestions received from the students.
14th July, 2023: Orientation Programme for 1st Semester students opting for the Honours Programme at the Department of Commerce
The program began with a welcome address by Ms. Ngiplon Rachel Chowanglim. A brief outline about the commerce faculty members, department’s motto, vision and objectives was presented by Mr. Vekhosa Thingo.
The rules and regulations of the department was highlighted by Ms. Akono Phira and lastly, Ms. Khekali Sema was given the time to present the course structure, papers and important aspects of the FYUP under NEP 2020 to the students.
10th May, 2023: Department of Commerce Organised an Educational Outing to Dzuleke
The Department of Commerce, Kohima College, Kohima organised an Educational Outing to Dzuleke on 10th May 2023. Approximately around 73 students and 6 faculties participated in this Educational Outing.
The primary objective of this trip was to create awareness and sensitise the students on the importance of environmental conservation and preservation. Through this outing we endeavoured to foster a community that takes responsibility and action in conserving and preserving our nature and its resources.
On reaching the spot, the students and the faculties collected all the waste/plastics/bottles from the river side and ground in and around a particular trekking spot at Dzuleke. The waste materials were collected in trash bags and deposited in the trash collection site. After the social work we gather for a short farewell programme for the outgoing students, 6th semester, of the Department. The programme was followed by lunch and recreational activities for the students. This educational trip has been a fulfilling and enriching experience for all the participants
3rd May, 2023: Department of Commerce Organised a Logo Competition themed “Strive for Equitable Growth”
This Logo Contest was organised by the Department after recognising the need to have a Logo for the Department. Hence, an invitation in the form of a contest was given out to the students to exhibit their talents and creative ideas. The contest was open only for the students of the Department. The contest was based on the Motto of the Department, “Strive for Equitable Growth”.
The total number of submissions was four. Submissions were received from all three semesters; one each from 6th and 2nd semester; and two from 4th semester. Due to the competitive nature of the submissions, the organising committee decided to choose two winners instead of one. The two winners received a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- each along with a Certificate of Achievement. All the participants were given a Certificate of Appreciation for their participation.

13th-14th April, 2023: Departments of Commerce & Economics Organised a 2-Day Certificate Course on Securities Market for the 6th Semester students
The programme was chaired by Dr Medongulie Zatsu & the resource person was Shri Chenio Lotha. It was attended by 50 students from the 6th Semester.
The objective of this programme was to spread the importance of financial education & planning; & at the same time create awareness on career opportunities for the students. The topics covered were:
