The Department of Sociology, Kohima College observed World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2025 in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK). The event was organised on the global theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” with Ms. Veronica Nriame, Psychiatric Social Worker, DMHP NHAK as the resource person.  The programme began with a welcome address by Ms. Faustina Pongener. In her session, the speaker emphasised that every life matters and highlighted the importance of reshaping the way we talk about suicide in order to create a supportive and empathetic society. She stressed on three key approaches: speak up, reach out, and seek help.  Ms. Nriame also clarified several myths and misconceptions surrounding suicide and addressed issues of stigma and discrimination. She provided insights on risk factors, preventive measures, and life skills needed to support individuals struggling with stress and other related mental health challenges.
