October 28, 2026: Day 1 of the 58th Annual Sports Meet at Kohima College
Kohima College, Kohima, inaugurated its 58th Annual Sports Meet 2026 at the college ground today under the theme “Unleashing the Spirit of Sportsmanship.” The three-day event, being held from October 28 to 30, commenced with an opening ceremony attended by members of the college community.
The programme began with the flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by the Kohima College anthem, marking the formal commencement of the annual sporting event. This was followed by the invocation, led by Ms. Rachel SY Konyak. The programme continued with a special number presented by Ms. Jessi, adding to the opening ceremony.
Delivering the special address, Shri Kelhikha Kenye, Principal of T.M. Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, expressed his delight at being part of the college’s sports week. Sharing his enthusiasm for sports, he said that sports week was an occasion everyone looked forward to and encouraged the students to enjoy the event.
Highlighting two important lessons from sports, Kenye emphasised that sports build character and teach valuable lessons about life. He explained that regular practice, discipline, prioritisation and competition help students develop a strong work ethic and the determination needed to succeed in life.
He further stressed the importance of accepting both victory and defeat with grace. While victory should be accepted with honour and humility, defeat should inspire participants to return with greater determination and strength. He encouraged the students to practise hard, give their best and compete with the spirit of winning.
Referring to the theme, “Unleashing the Spirit of Sportsmanship,” the guest speaker also spoke about remaining determined regardless of changing weather conditions. Although the weather had been pleasant earlier, it began to change. He urged the participants, whom he referred to as the KCK fighters, to maintain their sporting spirit, remain committed and enjoy not only the competitions but also the friendships and shared experiences the event offered. He concluded by wishing all participants the best for the sports meet.
Following the special address, the oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Mr. Kethosilie Sopfünuo, Games and Sports Secretary. The oath reaffirmed the importance of fair play, discipline and sportsmanship among the participants.
The opening ceremony concluded with the official kick-off by the special guest, formally launching the sporting activities scheduled for October 28 to 30.
The event underscores the importance of sports in character building and the holistic development of students.
October 27, 2026: Kohima College students participate at the ANCSU Collegiate Meet 2026
A contingent of 37 players and 7 council members from Kohima College participated in the ANCSU Collegiate Meet 2026, held from 20–24 October at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), under the leadership of Mr. Thepfuzolie Sekhose, Physical Instructor.
In Naga Wrestling, Khrulhutuo Venyo secured 1st position, while Kekhriesielie Metha secured 3rd position.
Kohima College congratulates the achievers on their accomplishments and for bringing recognition to the institution.
October 5, 2026: A contingent of Kohima College students participated at the State-Level Half Marathon under SPANDAN (Sports for Peace and Development Across Nations)
The State-Level Half Marathon under SPANDAN (Sports for Peace and Development Across Nations) was held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. The event was organised by 78 Battalion CRPF, Sechü-Zubza, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Government of Nagaland.
The event witnessed participation from over 600 students of Kohima College, Kohima, as part of the larger state-level participation of around 3,000 runners across three age categories. The programme aimed to promote physical fitness, youth engagement, social harmony, national integration and peace through sports.
Among the participants from Kohima College, Cekrotalu Khusoh, Department of Tenyidie, 1st Semester, Roll No. 648, secured 1st position in the Female 2nd Category . Zino Khusoh, Department of Education, 3rd Semester, Roll No. 148, also participated in the 2nd Category and secured 4th position.
The achievements of both students brought pride to Kohima College and highlighted the importance of participation, determination and sportsmanship among students. The event was a meaningful initiative towards building a healthier, united and more active society through sports.
June 23, 2026: Inspired by this year’s Olympic Day campaign 2026, “You Can Do This. Let’s Move”, the Sports Committee, Kohima College organised a Friendly Football Match under the theme “Sport: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers”
The event encouraged students to stay active, embrace healthy lifestyles, and recognize the power of sport to connect people across differences.
On this occasion, the committee was honoured by the gracious presence of our Principal, Dr Vitsosie Vupru who addressed the gathering and spoke on the significance of the Olympic Movement in promoting unity, discipline, excellence, and mutual respect. He emphasized the importance of physical fitness, sportsmanship, and active participation as essential elements of personal growth and community building.
The match served not only as a sporting event but also as a celebration of friendship, teamwork, and the enduring values of the Olympic Movement.

7th-9th October 2024: Kohima College Sports Meet 2024 held under the theme “Explore, Compete, Conquer”
The Kohima College Sports Meet 2024 was graced by the presence of Smti. Lanusenla Longkumer, CEO of the Kohima Municipal Council, as the special guest.
The event commenced with an invocation by Dr. Pricilla Ezung, Associate Professor. Following her, Shri Ketholelie Terhüja, also an Associate Professor at Kohima College, delivered a salutation, emphasizing the importance of including indigenous games, such as Naga wrestling, to preserve our cultural identity.
In her address, Smti. Lanusenla Longkumer encouraged students to explore the realities of life, asserting that exploration is essential for growth and wisdom. She highlighted that life is a competition and emphasized the necessity of skills and passion for success. Additionally, she stressed the importance of being fit physically, mentally, and emotionally to achieve one’s goals. Smti. Longkumer expressed her hopes for students to excel in both academics and sports, urging them to reach new heights in their pursuits.
The program included an oath-taking ceremony and concluded with a benediction. In support of Indigenous sports, Dr M Libanthung Ngullie, the former principal of Kohima College, presented a cash prize, marking his significant contribution to the event. The special guest donated funds to support the promotion of indigenous sports
13th September 2024: Launch of the Official KCK football Jersey
The official college football jersey of KCK College was ceremoniously unveiled today in a highly anticipated event on the college campus. The unveiling was presided over by the respected Principal of KCK College, Dr. Vitsosie Vupru, who highlighted the significance of the jersey as a symbol of pride, unity, and sporting excellence for the institution.
The newly designed jersey features the official college colours and crest, reflecting the tradition and identity of KCK College. This launch marks an important step in enhancing the visibility and recognition of the college’s football programme, inspiring players and supporters alike for the upcoming season.
7th to 28th September 2024: Kohima College Participates in 24th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2024
Kohima College Football Team participated in the prestigious 24th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2024, organized under the theme “Goal for Peace.” The tournament was held from 7th to 28th September 2024 at IG Stadium, Kohima.
Kohima College began their campaign on a strong note with an impressive 3–1 victory against Halcyon FC in the first round. The team displayed excellent coordination, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the match, earning appreciation from supporters and football enthusiasts.
In the second match, Kohima College faced Khrietho FC, Mereima in a closely contested encounter. After a hard-fought game, the match was decided through a penalty shootout, where Kohima College narrowly lost by 5–6.
Despite the defeat, the team’s spirited performance and participation in the tournament brought pride to the college and reflected the growing football culture among the students.
