The Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and Research Center, in collaboration with the National Mental Health Program, organised a Marathon Race themed “Depression and Anxiety” to mark World Mental Health awareness.
The event aimed to highlight how depression and anxiety often drive individuals toward harmful addictions such as alcohol and tobacco, and into social withdrawal. Officials from the institute emphasized the importance of adopting healthy outlets to cope with emotional distress. They encouraged participants to “release their pain through movement, connection, and hope,” underscoring that the marathon symbolised running toward healing, strength, and a brighter state of mind.
More than 15 students from Kohima College, Kohima participated in the event. Among the hundreds of runners, Sha S, 5th Semester, representing Kohima College, emerged victorious, securing the 1st position in the marathon.
The event concluded with a message promoting mental well-being, resilience, and community support in combating the growing challenges of depression and anxiety.
