Disaster Management Cell & IQAC, Kohima College in collaboration with Kohima District Road Safety Committee, organised an Awareness Programme on “Road Safety”, at the Conference Hall, Kohima College
Chaired by Khrielieü Zumvu, Assistant Professor, Department of History, and Member, DMC, Kohima College, the objective was to sensitise students, faculty members, taxi, bus and private drivers to the importance of road discipline and responsible driving. In her opening address, she welcomed the participants and highlighted the need for collective responsibility in ensuring safer roads in the state capital.
The introductory remarks were delivered by Ms. Khriezenuo Angami, Head of the Department and Associate Professor of English, and Member, IQAC, Kohima College. She emphasized the significance of awareness initiatives in building a culture of safety among young learners and community members.
The resource person, Mr. Solevi Metha, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Kohima, addressed the gathering and shared valuable insights on traffic rules, traffic congestion: the causes and preventive measures, significance of road signs, awareness on carrying proper and valid documents, two wheeler safety and elaborated on Motor Vehicle Act. He also elaborated on the duties of both pedestrians and drivers, encouraging strict adherence to traffic regulations to minimize accidents and loss of life. His session included practical examples and local case studies that deeply engaged the participants.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Vezhosa Ringa, Associate Professor, Department of History, and Convenor, DMC, Kohima College. He expressed gratitude to the Kohima District Road Safety Committee, the resource person, faculty, student and otherparticipants for their active involvement and support in making the event a success.
Overall, the awareness programme proved to be informative and enlightening, reinforcing the importance of road safety education among students and reaffirming the college’s commitment to community outreach and social responsibility.
October 7, 2024: Disaster Management Cell, Kohima College, participated in the formal programme for “International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction”, organised by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Kohima, Nagaland
Under the aegis of the Disaster Management Committee, Kohima College, a team of 25 students, accompanied by two faculty members, Dr Ketoukhrieu & Khrielieü Zumvu, from the Departments of Political Science & History respectively, actively participated in the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction programme organised by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).
The event served as a valuable platform for students to deepen their understanding of disaster preparedness, resilience-building, and community safety. It also offered opportunities to engage in competitions that encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and public speaking.
A remarkable highlight of the programme was the achievement of Ms. Mercy Khrozho, a 5th-semester Commerce student, who secured the 2nd Prize in the Reel Competition. Her entry was commended for its creativity, clarity, and meaningful portrayal of disaster risk reduction themes.
In the Debate Competition, Mr. Keneivotuo Kesiezie and Ms. Ilihon from the 3rd Semester, Department of Economics, brought laurels to the college through their outstanding performances.
- Keneivotuo Kesiezie was part of the winning debate team and received a cash prize for his contribution.
- Ilihon secured the 2nd Position (Individual Category) and was also awarded a cash prize for her strong articulation and analytical arguments.
The Disaster Management Committee commends the dedication and enthusiasm of all participating students. Their achievements not only highlight their individual talents but also reflect the college’s commitment to fostering awareness, preparedness, and responsible citizenship.
