March 6, 2026: Kohima College successfully celebrated its 57th Cultural-cum-Literary Day themed “The Eternal Thread”. The programme was organised by the Kohima College Students’ Council (KCSC) & witnessed active participation from students & faculty members.

Chaired by Bowe Elah, BA 6th Semester, the programme began with a Unity Dance by students & an invocation offered by Thejiasenuo Metsieo, VP, Evangelical Union, Kohima College. This was followed by a welcome note by Vilabeizo Kesitsu, Social & Cultural Secretary, KCSC.

The special guest for the event was Dr K Nishena Nekha, Additional Director of Higher Education, Kohima. In his address, Dr Nekha highlighted the non-material & invisible aspects of culture (values, beliefs), which are fast eroding due to rapid digitalisation. He added that academic institutions like Kohima College must nurture students into good speakers & writers, as the ability to articulate stories, ideas & experiences is essential for preserving & transmitting the invisible cultural values of Naga society.

The programme featured a series of vibrant cultural performances, that included folk dance & song, war cry, showcase of ethnic attire etc from various indigenous tribes of Nagaland. The day also featured a series of other competitions including debate, extempore speech, signature dishes etc, centred around “culture, diversity & ethical appropriation”

The winners of the various competitions are as follows—

Signature Dish: Pochury students
Folk Dance: Zeliang students
War Cry: Rengma students
Debate: Kekhrievor, 2nd Semester
Extempore: Bowe Elah, 4th Semester
Poetry: Samlam, 6th Semester
Essay: Thejasenuo Metsieo, 4th Semester
Sketching: Neiserielie Miasalhou, 2nd Semester

The event concluded with words of gratitude delivered by Wati LKR, Literary & Magazine Secretary, KCSC, & a benediction pronounced by M Panjai Konyak, both students.

The annual event served as a platform for students to celebrate cultural diversity & literary talent while strengthening the spirit of unity within the college community.
