The programme From Campus to Career – Part III was organized by the Department of History, Kohima College on 22nd April 2026, from 10:00 a.m. onwards for the 2nd Year and 4th Semester M.A. students of History and Political Science. The objective of the programme was to guide students in preparing for their careers and to equip them with the necessary skills and confidence to pursue opportunities beyond academics, particularly in competitive examinations.
The session was chaired by Dr. Eunice Alinger, Nodal Officer of the M.A. (History) Programme and Associate Professor, Department of History. In her address, she encouraged students to remain focused, disciplined, and proactive in planning their future careers, emphasizing the importance of consistency and clarity of purpose.
Session I was conducted by Ms. M. Therali Ovung, Proprietor of Intensive Coaching Institute, Kohima. She shared her extensive experience of mentoring numerous aspirants preparing for Civil Service examinations. She also provided practical inputs on how to begin the preparation process, advising students to understand the syllabus and exam pattern thoroughly, build a strong foundation in basic subjects, and maintain a consistent study routine. She further highlighted the challenges candidates may face, such as time management and sustaining motivation, and stressed that dedication, commitment, hard work, and creative thinking are essential for success.
Session II featured Mr. Yeshika K. Zhimo, who spoke about his experience in appearing for and successfully clearing various Central Service examinations as well as NPSC examination. He emphasized that self-belief, clear goals, ambition, and perseverance are key to success. He also provided valuable insights into the interview process, explaining what is expected from candidates. He highlighted that to perform well in interviews, candidates must have a strong command over their core subjects while also being well-informed about issues beyond their syllabus, including current affairs. He encouraged students not to be anxious, but to face interviews confidently through careful preparation and a solid academic foundation.
The programme also highlighted that a significant number of students are now ready and motivated to appear for Central Service examinations, NPSC, NSSB, and other competitive exams, reflecting their growing confidence and determination. Overall, the programme was highly informative, inspiring, and beneficial for all the students.
