Aug 1, 2026: Kohima College warmly welcomed 779 newly admitted students during its 57th Freshers’ Day 2026, themed “New Beginnings, Endless Possibilities”.
The programme began with an invocation by SCF President Liyani Lotha, followed by a welcome address from Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vüpru, who encouraged the student freshers to make the most of the opportunities available and grow into responsible citizens.
The induction of the Kohima College Students’ Council (KCSC) 2026-2027 was conducted by Medoseno Thapo, Assistant Professor and Secretary, Student Welfare Committee. Outgoing General Secretary Yeshika Achumi presented the General Secretary’s report before officially handing over the charge to the newly elected General Secretary Wati Lkr, who pledged to serve with humility, sincerity, accountability and efficiency.
The event also featured a special performance by Ketouzo Sopfünuo from the Tenyidie Department and a speech on behalf of the freshers by Semurayi Swuro of the Education Department.
The chief guest, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor, School Education, Government of Nagaland, inspired students to embrace adaptability, develop relevant skills, think beyond conventional career paths, and become socially responsible leaders while preserving their cultural identity.
The final leg of this programme saw the crowning of new Mr. and Miss Freshers Kohima College 2026, Kesanelie, Political Science Department and Lochumlo, History Department, respectively. This was followed by a vote of thanks, benediction and refreshments, marking a memorable beginning to the academic journey of the new batch.
