Disaster Management Cell & IQAC, Kohima College in collaboration with Kohima District Road Safety Committee, organised an Awareness Programme on “Road Safety”, at the Conference Hall, Kohima College
Chaired by Khrielieü Zumvu, Assistant Professor, Department of History, and Member, DMC, Kohima College, the objective was to sensitise students, faculty members, taxi, bus and private drivers to the importance of road discipline and responsible driving. In her opening address, she welcomed the participants and highlighted the need for collective responsibility in ensuring safer roads in the state capital.
The introductory remarks were delivered by Ms. Khriezenuo Angami, Head of the Department and Associate Professor of English, and Member, IQAC, Kohima College. She emphasized the significance of awareness initiatives in building a culture of safety among young learners and community members.
The resource person, Mr. Solevi Metha, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Kohima, addressed the gathering and shared valuable insights on traffic rules, traffic congestion: the causes and preventive measures, significance of road signs, awareness on carrying proper and valid documents, two wheeler safety and elaborated on Motor Vehicle Act. He also elaborated on the duties of both pedestrians and drivers, encouraging strict adherence to traffic regulations to minimize accidents and loss of life. His session included practical examples and local case studies that deeply engaged the participants.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Vezhosa Ringa, Associate Professor, Department of History, and Convenor, DMC, Kohima College. He expressed gratitude to the Kohima District Road Safety Committee, the resource person, faculty, student and otherparticipants for their active involvement and support in making the event a success.
Overall, the awareness programme proved to be informative and enlightening, reinforcing the importance of road safety education among students and reaffirming the college’s commitment to community outreach and social responsibility.
