The final-year MA History students of Kohima College, Kohima, accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr Nutazo Lohe, undertook an educational tour to Delhi, Jaipur & Agra in collaboration with ‘Voyages Travel International’. The tour was designed as an experiential learning initiative, enabling students to move beyond classroom texts & engage directly with India’s rich & diverse historical heritage through first-hand observation and exploration.
Throughout the journey, students visited several iconic historical and cultural landmarks, including Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, and Jal Mahal in Jaipur; Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal in Agra; and Raj Ghat, Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum, Qutab Minar, and the Lotus Temple in Delhi. These visits allowed students to critically observe architectural styles, historical narratives, and cultural continuities thereby strengthening their academic understanding of India’s civilizational development across different periods.
The educational tour also provided students with valuable exposure to the realities of modern urban centres. Experiences such as city metro transport, shopping malls, theatre film, street markets & bazaars and engaging with other contemporary urban amenities offered insights into the evolving lifestyles of modern cities. This interaction highlighted the seamless coexistence of historical legacy and modernization, presenting each city as a unique fusion of tradition and modernity.
Overall, the tour proved to be a meaningful and enriching academic experience. It not only enhanced students’ historical knowledge but also fostered cultural awareness, critical thinking and civic consciousness, contributing significantly to their holistic development as young scholars and informed citizens.
