“English in On the Job Training” for Functional English 6thSemester (Minor), as ‘Student Teachers’ at Government Primary School, Kitsubozou, Kohima.
As part of their ‘On the Job Training’, 8 students from Functional English Department, Kohima College, Kohima were ‘Student Teachers’ at GPS, Kitsubozou. The student teachers taught students of Classes 1 to 5 effectively, adapting lessons from their English textbooks. Across classes 1-5, student teachers maintained a lively and interactive classroom transaction, by using songs and props for steady participation from the young learners.
Functional English as a vocation-oriented course designed to develop practical language skills for real-life, academic, and professional scenarios. It focuses on functional proficiency in the English language skills. The student teachers were able to deliver what they have learnt from the subject onto their real-life, ‘On the Job Training’. The young learners expressed their happiness with the student teachers through their beaming smiles, eager participation and spontaneous cheers during lessons. This positive response highlighted the student teachers’ success in creating a joyful classroom environment.
