In a heartfelt display of patriotism and solidarity, Kohima College, Kohima, today organized a Tiranga Yatra to honour the Indian Armed Forces for their recent success in Operation Sindoor — a major military undertaking undertaken by India to combat terrorism.
The programme commenced at 12:00 noon at the college campus with a welcome address by Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru. Among the dignitaries present were Shri Temjen Imna Along, the Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education & Tourism; the Director of the Department of Tourism; the Joint Director and OSD of Higher Education; representatives from the Armed Forces; and other well-wishers. The Minister was accompanied by dignitaries and the Assam Rifles Pipe Band, whose performance added ceremonial grandeur to the march. The participation of these key figures underscored the significance of the event and the collective gratitude of the civilian community.
In his speech, the Minister called it a “solemn and honourable day” as citizens, through this Tiranga Yatra, paid tribute to the armed forces not with words, but with actions that embody solidarity and national pride. He elaborated on the meaning of “Tiranga Yatra” — a symbolic march carrying the tricolour that signifies unity, courage, and sacrifice. The Minister further described Operation Sindoor as the nation’s unwavering resolve, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the brave actions of the armed forces, to safeguard the country’s sovereignty from terrorist threats.
Following the programme, the march commenced with participants — including students from BA and BCom 2nd and 6th semesters, faculty, ministerial staff, and the Assam Rifles Pipe Band — waving the national flag and chanting patriotic slogans. The march proceeded solemnly through the college campus and concluded at the Secretariat Junction, symbolically bringing the people’s gratitude to the heart of the state’s administrative capital.
Also joining the march were students from TM School, further enriching the spirit of inter-institutional unity.
Dr. Vupru, in his closing remarks, stated, “This Tiranga Yatra is not just a tribute, but a reminder of our shared responsibility to uphold the values that our soldiers protect every day with unmatched dedication.”
The program, though simple in form, was deeply significant in meaning — offering a visual and collective expression of respect for those who defend the nation.
