Kohima College commemorates its 56th Foundation Day, Kohima College on 9th August, 2023: A formal programme was held on account of this day, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Megovono Usou, HoD, Department of English. The event began with an address by the Principal of Kohima College, Dr Vitsosie Vupru, who welcomed all the descendants of the founding members of the college – Dr.Nielhouzhu Kire, Vibeilie Solo, Vilalhoulie Belho and Dr. Satuo Sekhose, the latter of whom had laid a solid foundation for the college in its early years that it achieve B++ grade in the 3rd cycle of NAAC Assessment 2023. Dr Vupru also announced a cash prize of Rs 30,000 to all Kohima College University Toppers from the Principal’s office.The special guest was Shri K Puroh, former faculty member of the college. After his teaching career of 29 years, he went on to become a member of the NPSC & eventually retired as its chairman.
Puroh in his speech to the audience members of Kohima College faculty & students, evinced nostalgic memories of how Kohima College was envisioned. That the idea of Kohima College emerged during a time when “the land was clear, the soil was clear, & the vision was clear”. He reminded the students that their education in Kohima College should make them harbingers of positive change & “Builders of Nation”; That every youth must commit to the Naga Nation first & the tribe after. He concluded by rejecting the divisive elements of Naga society & exhorting the idea of equality & unity of all Naga peoples.
Furthermore, Kohima College’s Foundation Day has conventionally honoured its students with academic achievements. And as such, this 56th milestone also saw several student awardees. They were—HyuloTsela 6th Semester, 1st recipient of Dr Satuo Sekhose Star Pupil Award (Rs 30,000); Alavinuo Mepfuo 6th Semester, winner of both Scholar’s Badge Award & also Political Science Merit Award; Scholar’s Badge Awardees 6th Semester— Zhevine Rozhemai (Commerce), LongshibeniMurry (Economics), Kerigi Madeline Thong (English), KekhrievonoRote (Sociology); Scholar’s Badge awardees 4th Semester—Nguzokhotuo Mepfuo (Political Science), Rotila Sangtam (History), Nepe M (Commerce), Pongloi Konyak (Education), Noyingi Z Shitiri—Economics & Keneingunuo Khoubve (English)
The programme concluded with an official photo session & a light refreshment thereafter.
