Oct. 9, 2026: The Department of Commerce, Kohima College, Kohima, celebrated Commerce Day on Friday, marking ten years of the department’s establishment under the theme “Celebrating a Decade of Growth and Progress.” The celebration was marked by the launch of the Student-preneur Incubation Initiative, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among students.
The initiative was formally launched by Dr. Vitsosie Vupru, Principal, Kohima College, Kohima. Designed to nurture entrepreneurial ideas and encourage innovation, the initiative seeks to support students in developing and pursuing viable business ventures through mentoring, guidance and incubation support.
The programme also featured a keynote address by Biswajit Sarkar, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Dimapur Government College, who served as the first Head of the Department of Commerce at Kohima College when it was established in 2016.
In his address, Sarkar encouraged students to use the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the department’s journey, introspect on their achievements and challenges, and make renewed commitments towards the future. He emphasised the importance of learning from past experiences, recognising the progress made over the years and working collectively towards greater growth and development.
The celebration also featured a business proposal competition and a quiz competition, providing students with platforms to demonstrate their entrepreneurial ideas, business acumen, knowledge and intellectual abilities.
The celebration commemorated the department’s decade-long journey since its inception in 2016, while reaffirming its commitment to academic growth, innovation and the promotion of entrepreneurial skills among students.
