As part of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme 2025, the District-Level Youth Parliament and Debate Competition was held on August 6, 2025, at Kohima College, Kohima. The event was organized by the NSS Unit of Kohima College in collaboration with the District Youth Resources Office, Kohima, and NYKS, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.The event saw enthusiastic participation from students of St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama; Kohima College, Kohima and Alder College.
The programme was chaired by Zavikhoto Phinyo, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Vitsosie Vupru, Principal of Kohima College, who highlighted that India is on a dynamic path of transformation. He urged the youth to contribute in building a strong and self-reliant India, stating, he exort that Today’s celebration is not just an event, but a celebration of democratic ideals. You are the torchbearers of Viksit Bharat and the leaders of tomorrow. May this platform foster new ideas and aspirations.
The Special Guest for the event, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, delivered an inspiring address, encouraging the students by saying, “We are at a challenging stage, and this is a defining moment. You are the future of the nation, and such initiatives will empower you. It’s not about winning, but about learning, growing, and becoming responsible citizens. Democracy is not just a piece of paper, it is a living force. If one is dedicated, one will excel.”
The debate competition, moderated by Dr. Limayangla Pongener, Assistant Professor, Department of English, focused on the topic “Emergency Period in India.”
In the Youth Parliament segment:
The panel of judges included Medo Chale (Assistant Professor, Japu Christian College), Dr. Ketuokhrie-ü (Assistant Professor, Kohima College), and Vikhotuo Sekhose (Entrepreneur), who praised the high standard of performance and depth of knowledge displayed by the participants. The event successfully served as a platform for young minds to engage with critical national issues, promoting democratic values and youth leadership in the true spirit of Viksit Bharat.
