The Department of History, Kohima College, Kohima, has introduced a Post Graduate Alumni Guest Teaching Programme, an innovative academic initiative aimed at providing Post Graduate alumni with meaningful teaching experience while supporting their future academic and professional endeavours.
The programme, conducted from 24 August to 24 September 2026, saw seven Post Graduate alumni serve as Guest Faculty in the Department. The alumni undertook classes for Undergraduate (UG) and First Semester Postgraduate (PG) students, completing a minimum of 21 (Twenty-One) Contact Hours each.
A distinctive feature of the initiative was its peer-teaching model, wherein each class involved two alumni—one serving as the Teacher and the other as the Observer. Both roles were given equal importance, with the Observer providing feedback after every session to facilitate reflection and improvement. The Department also maintained close academic monitoring, including short video recordings of each class for documentation and quality assurance.
The initiative provides a structured platform for alumni to transition from learners to academic contributors within their alma mater, while gaining practical classroom experience, peer-learning opportunities and professional exposure. It also seeks to bridge the gap between postgraduate education and the demands of academic teaching.
The Department of History takes pride in presenting the programme as a pioneering and first-of-its-kind initiative among Post Graduate institutions, reflecting its commitment to innovative teaching practices and meaningful alumni engagement.
